Alexander Graf Lambsdorff is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP), which is part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. He is vice-chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and a member of both the Subcommittee on Security and Defence and the Delegation for relations with the United States. He is also a substitute for the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Delegation for relations with Japan.
Graf Lambsdorff was born in Cologne on 5 November 1966. He studied History, Public Law and International Relations at the University of Bonn and at Georgetown University in Washington DC. He went on to work for the German Foreign Office for ten years. During this time he served on the Policy Planning Staff, the Russia desk and at the German embassy in Washington DC. He was elected to the European Parliament in 2004, representing the people of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s largest state.
Graf Lambsdorff was the Chief Observer for the EU EOM to Bangladesh in December 2006 and January 2007. |
